With gasoline prices reaching all time highs, consumers are feeling the pinch each and every day.
In Shreveport, KTBS (ABC) and sister-station KPXJ (CW21) recently cashed in on this awareness with a pair of attention-getting local gasoline-oriented promotions.
ONE TANK GETAWAY GAS GETAWAY - KTBS
The One Tank Getaway Gas Giveaway asked viewers to log on to ktbs.com and nominate a unique regional destination for news reporter Rick Rowe to visit.
Winners were selected and announced during the Wednesday KTBS 3 News at 10 on July 9, July 16 and July 23.
Each winner received $300 in gasoline. In addition Rick Rowe broadcast live from the chosen One Tank Getaway location during First News on Friday mornings.
GASWATCH GAS GIVEAWAY - CW 21
On sister station CW21, viewers were asked to seek out the lowest pump prices in their neighborhoods then log on to report their findings.
Each weeknight, the first person to submit the lowest pump price that day won $100 in gasoline. The lowest price and the winner who submitted it were reported nightly on the News at Nine.
The GasWatch Gas Giveaway promotion was sponsored by Sams Town Hotel and Casino in Shreveport

These promotuions succeeded because they were as timely as today's headlines.
Soaring gasoline prices are affecting everything from the cost of travel to the price of consumer goods. They are also a hot topic of conversation at work, at home and in the media as well.
